THE 2013 CHAMPIONSHIP WILL BE TELEVISED ON MOTORS TV !.
Following a successful fourth season in 2012, the V.A.G. Trophy seems to have captured the imaginations of enthusiasts old and new.
Championship status was granted last year, which enhanced the profile of the event.
We are proud to announce our calendar for 2013. The format and calibre of the tracks is amongst the best in the UK, with ten rounds ( all ‘double headers’) at the following circuits :
1. 23 March – Oulton Park
2. 27/28 April – Donington Park
3. 12 May – Cadwell Park
4. 12-14 July Spa
5. 24/25 August – Brands Hatch GP
7. 26/27 October – Snetterton 300
Through our status as a listed Motor Sport Vision Racing (MSVR) event, we will take part in some high profile race meetings. We will share the paddock with, variously, GT Cup, Mini Challenge and Lotus On Track Elise Trophy.
The series caters for 2 & 4 wheel drive vehicles from VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda introduced before 2006. We saw a very varied grid in 2011 and this looks set to continue.
The regulations are based around power : weight ratio. A summary of the regulations is provided below :
Class A - Approximately 230 BHP / Ton (flywheel) - this is for Seat Leon Cupra Mk1s, ex VW Cup specification vehicles and highly modified cars.. Tyre choice is free and slicks are allowed .
Class B – Approximately 180 BHP / Ton (flywheel) – Lightly modified ex track day cars and lower powered race cars, also vehicles built to the new Mk4 Golf TDIGTI Series specification. Any MSA list 1A or 1B treaded tyre can be used.
The organisers expect to attract vehicles of the following types :
1, DIESEL V.A.G. models.
2, Ex. Vento Challenge cars.
3, Ex. Polo G40 Cup cars.
4, Ex. ‘Slick 50’ Golf Mk1 & 2 variants.
5, Ex. VW Cup cars.
6, Ex. Trackday V.A.G. models.
7, Seat Cupras.
8, Modified V.A.G. road cars which are adapted for race use.
The V.A.G. Trophy builds on the basic ethos of the Mk2 Golf GTI Championship (organised by the same team) and the organisers will actively promote :
We hope to see you ‘on the grid’ in 2013 !.
